Organisation:   Our working method

Short delivery times, favourable conditions, integrated project management and presses wih equal-to-new quality. That's why GWS is the partner for leading printers and publishers.

Continuous updating of technological knowledge is essential

Knowledge, expertise and dedication are the most important characteristics of the GWS workforce with more than 75 employees. Project managers, engineers and supporting staff all have broad professional knowledge. The teams have an extensive network including both printers and publishers, as well as the suppliers of new presses such as KBA, MAN and Heidelberg/Harris. They closely monitor developments in the market on both the supply and demand sides, constantly updating their knowledge on the latest technological developments. Due to the excellent relationship with suppliers of new presses, they always have access to the latest machine specifications. In addition, since they work with presses from all the top manufacturers they have wide-ranging expertise and extensive experience.

A project team that is always ready for the customer

GWS operates as a project organisation, in which project teams are constantly ready to serve each customer. These teams consist of a project manager, various mechanical and electrical specialists and supporting services for logistics, transport and organisation. A representative is always available to keep the customer updated with the latest status and project details, and to answer any additional questions that may arise.

Upgrading of controls provides larger benefits for the customer

GWS believes that this expertise is essential to maintain its leadership position in the market for rebuilt web offset presses. When it arrives in the GWS works in Schijndel, a press is thoroughly rebuilt on the basis of inspection reports. The machine is completely dismantled, and components that no longer function within the original tolerances are replaced. GWS engineers then upgrade the press with the latest technology. In the last 20 years the most significant changes have taken place in control systems, and this is where upgrading delivers major benefits for the new owner. The result is a financially attractive web offset press that meets the most modern demands, allows new market opportunities to be addressed, and is comparable to a new press in every way.

Faster return on investment through faster delivery times

The delivery time of a press supplied by GWS is significantly shorter than that of a completely new press. When a web offset press leaves GWS' 9000 m2 works for its new owner, GWS not only organises the transport, but also the installation and commissioning on-site. Customers lose as little time as possible. They can put their new production strategies into practice sooner by sourcing their new presses from GWS. That means a higher return on investment, and a correspondingly shorter payback time, with a GWS rebuilt press. GWS only regards a project as completed when the new owner is satisfied with the test results and production. In specific projects, GWS supplies machines under conditions comparable to those that apply to the purchase of a new press.

Extensive network is a source of tailor-made solutions

The purchase of a used web offset press does not have to be combined with extensive advisory services. GWS also supplies to customers who know precisely which presses will provide the best returns in their own organisations. GWS is always able to offer tailor-made solutions, either from stock, or from a network of suppliers. Then it is a matter of inspection, cleaning and cosmetic finishing, after which the press can be shipped to the new owner. Customers making use of GWS' services in this way can be assured of a highly professional and reliable supplier.

Taking a higher position in the value chain

Frank van Dijk started out as an engineer for a leading manufacturer of presses. He estimates the worldwide market for used web offset presses at around EUR 400 million a year. 'Our activities have received a tremendous boost in recent years', he says. 'When we started, there were only a few players trading in machines. Today there is healthy competition. To win you have to be more than just a trader. By offering completely rebuilt presses, we present ourselves as a consultant and partner. We know what is happening in the market, so we understand our customers' requirements for better, faster and more creative presses. We can advise on the best production solutions. But we can only do that because we have people who know the market, and who have the right technological expertise. I am only satisfied when our customers refer to us as the best supplier.'

International strengthening

According to Frank van Dijk, the market for used machines is still growing. 'Printers and publishers are replacing their web offset presses more and more rapidly. The demand for different formats and more use of colour, for example in newspapers, is accelerating that development. However, the machines themselves still have a long lifetime. If they are rebuilt, their value increases. This means that there is a tremendous growth potential. This is one of the reasons for strengthening our organisation internationally with branches in other regions of the world. Our customer base is growing so strongly that we need to be represented in the regions where our customers are located', according to Frank van Dijk.
