"With GWS we are able to respond faster and with greater flexibility to trends and developments' Millions of copies of El País are sent out daily from the seven production sites of the largest national daily newspaper in Spain. The newspaper sales in Spain take place through newspaper stands. Subscriptions account for only a limited proportion of the market. This implies that newspapers can gain an advantage over their competitors by delivering to those stands as early as possible. Delivering an hour later is out of the question. 'Production is the life blood of the company', says Clemente Humáran. 'That's why we have different production sites in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Sevilla, Lugo, Burgos and the Canary Islands. We cannot be dependent on just one production site. In addition, the demands that are placed on the layout and the format of the newspaper are changing rapidly. If you want to stay the largest newspaper, your response has to be quick and flexible to trends and developments. This is one of the reasons why the delivery times of the leading manufacturers are often too long. Moreover, the rate of new investments would be too high if you had to buy a new machine every time a new printing requirement comes up. Our range of machines will always consist of a combination of new and rebuilt presses.

Co-operation between GWS and KBA is of extreme importance.

Our first experience with GWS was the dismantling and re-assembly of a machine that was moved from Madrid to Valencia', recalls Clemente. 'We were looking for a company that specialised in reconditioning / rebuilding of presses, as we did not have the necessary expertise ourselves. Since we wanted a true partner in this field, we took the time to get used to each other's working methods. In addition, for us it was the co-operation between GWS and the suppliers of new machines such as KBA that was of extreme importance. Rebuilding takes place with genuine KBA components. A machine that has been rebuilt by GWS is supplied with a guarantee. That is a clear signal that GWS delivers quality. This is something we have experienced for ourselves.
